The Vancouver Canucks are facing a nightmare scenario, and it’s called an offer sheet. Following the league-shattering $90 million deal for Leo Carlsson, the NHL landscape has fundamentally changed. Aggressive GMs are now weaponizing cap space, and for the Canucks, that means Zeev Buium has a giant target on his back.
In this episode, we break down why the Philadelphia Flyers' move has put Ryan Johnson and the Sedins on a ticking time bomb. Zeev Buium, the smooth-skating 12th overall pick from 2024, is the future of the Canucks' blue line—but he's also a prime target for a hostile offer sheet. We dive into the cold, hard numbers: the massive $10.5M AAV threat, the Canucks' tight 2026-27 salary cap with Elias Pettersson and Filip Hronek, and the looming Oliver Ekman-Larsson buyout hit.
Most importantly, we reveal the "Silver Bullet": a critical, limited-time window in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that allows Vancouver to sign Buium to one of the last 8-year contracts in NHL history.
In this episode, we discuss:
✅ The Leo Carlsson $90M Offer Sheet Aftermath.
✅ Why Zeev Buium could be a target next Summer.
✅ Vancouver Canucks Cap Space & RFA Stress Test.
✅ The "8-Year Rule" Window: July 1st - Sept 15th.
✅ How to protect the Canucks' defensive future.
The clock is ticking on Zeev Buium’s future in Vancouver. Does management pull the trigger on a long-term extension now, or do they risk losing a franchise cornerstone?
