The "gentlemen’s agreement" is officially dead. After the Philadelphia Flyers shocked the hockey world by signing Leo Carlsson to a record-breaking $18 million AAV offer sheet, the fallout is just beginning. This isn't just about the Ducks losing a star—it’s about a league-wide panic that is fundamentally changing how every NHL team operates.
In this episode, we break down the "Carlsson Precedent" and why the ripple effects are reaching every front office in the league. From the immediate crisis in Anaheim to the looming contract extensions for stars like Connor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini, the financial ceiling of the NHL has been shattered.
In this episodse, we discuss:
✅ Why Danny Brière’s "nuclear option" worked.
✅ The impossible choice facing Ducks GM Pat Verbeek.
✅ How this deal instantly makes every RFA a potential target.
✅ Why Connor Bedard’s next contract just hit the $20M mark.
✅ The end of team-friendly deals for the next generation of superstars.
The era of the $20 million player isn't coming—it's already here. The NHL power dynamic has shifted, and the consequences will be felt for decades.
